Yep, looks like more than one national government got the memo so what are they preparing for and what do the majority of the people do if they don't agree with that path? I don't know enough about 'it' to talk intelligently about it but I don't like the signs of 'it' I'm reading about.

There is a documentary called "The Flaw" on Netflix that provides another viewpoint about what the powers that be are really afraid of. Income inequality. The gap between the richest and the poorest is the greatest since 1929. What happens when the rich become even richer and the rest of us poorer and become more desperate. It stops becoming about ideology and more about eating and housing.

The Flaw

The movie gets it's title from the statement that Alan Greenspan made to Congress investigating the meltdown in 2008/09. "I found a flaw in model that defines how the world works. I was shocked."

I can envision several scenarios. All of them have a different cause, but the end result is pretty much the same and very ugly.

I pray every night that I am wrong.

In the meantime, I'll put my faith in the TEXAS STANDARD!

Excuse me for being not so familiar with US politics (not that i really care) but that was an interesting link.
Howevers, as far as i know, middle class seems to be the key.

Up here, all political parties (we do not have 2 but about 20) seem to agree that ther is no point on making middle class smaller (richer, poorer).We do not have those who are really poor, unless willingly to step outside society and social networks, but still there seems to be a concensus on as long there's strong middle class, there is no need to be afraid of things getting too bad.
Of course small minorities like extreme right wingers are doing their best to tell that we are doing worse than ever but hardly no-one believe. Specially when one parliament member of the right wing party suggested, fascinated Fukushima accident that No nuke plant should ever be built on the tectonic plate :rofl2:
That is what their knowledge on real life is about.
Been serving in a military for about 25 years (7 to go, i'm counting days) thus being a lower middle class. After doing some time with US troops in Kosova and SE Africa i was surprised on how much salary you folks are doing. We are about thirds.
Still i'm doing ok here as long as i try not to reach clowds from the skies. Trying to get along with what i have, not what i could have.

If I understand it correctly - your government provides a great deal more services to it's citizens than maybe the states do.
