The things you see while driving.

We were coming down Dunraven Pass in Yellowstone Park which is an 8000 foot pass, I believe, on a winding steep and narrow road with no shoulders or guardrails. We met several older people coming up the pass making almost about a 2 mph headway, blocking motor homes and camper trucks behind them. While I applaud their attempt to bike the pass, I couldn't do it, that was a very dumb thing to do. It could have lead to a very serious accident when backed up traffic attempts to pass them with a good chance of running opposite traffic over a drop off.

I have not personally eye-witnessed such events but know people who have with the addition of the funeral being that of a motorcyclist! The first few years a motorcyclist begins to think he or she rides with a huge target on his body somehwere but after a while and too many close calls to remember we just begin to chalk it up as part of the experience.

Yes, I've seen similar things like people reading, luckily not at 80mph. No regard for life, their own or other people's. Sometimes people think if they are inside a car, nobody sees them. I saw a most beautiful woman, in a silver Mercedes searching inside her nose with such enthusiasm, it seemed she was scratching her brain. Well, maybe she was searching for her brain.

I guess that the worst thing I’ve personally witnessed was when I was driving down a city street and there was a stop sign at the upcoming cross road for the car on my right to obey. As I entered the intersection I could tell that the oncoming car wasn’t going to stop. I hit the brakes and barely avoided being hit! In hindsight, maybe I should have let the lady hit my rig. Not only was she talking on a cell phone, she had the F—king Little Poodle dog in her lap with its head out the window!:banghead:

I’d like to see what the police officer would have written on the ticket!!

It's been a wile. From your choice of words to describe your vehicle, "rig" were you by chance driving one of those bid diesel cars? If so you'll appreciate one of my brother's names for the "drivers" who are disgraces to the profession. He refers to them as steering wheel huggers. He and I have many conversations about the horrible drivers on the roads, bikers, cagers, and truck drivers. He gets extremely irate when the subject of truck drivers comes up and insists that I not refer to the really horrible ones as such because to him they are an embarassment. And if you are a driver you will know exactly the types I am referring to.
There is a stretch of road here is SE NE, US 75 between NEB city and Auburn which is two lane, straight for the most part only one major "S" curve but nothing but hills making it a nightmare for passing, especially trucks. That is probably one of the dealiest stretches of roads in this state for motorcyclist, that I am aware of anyway. Of all the close calls I have had in this state ti would be safe to say that 90% have been on that short piece of beautiful road. This is getting boring I'll go.
