Brings to mind my S-10 long bed in '84. Spun that a couple of 360s into the oncoming lane when I transitioned from snow to glare ice. Lucky for me nothing was coming from that direction. I kept sandbags in the bed of the truck come winter. Laid them across above the axle.

I bought an '81 F-250 from the Western Company ( Eddie Childs, Tx oilman extraordinaire )

It had the 351 with a C-6 I think. Had P-track and I ran those old tall skinny 16" mud grips on it. That punk pulled a LOT of smart aleck city boy's 4WDs out of the mud when they'd come to my part of the world for their annual "beer" hunt. AS that old truck was ex-oilfield, it looked like HELL, but it ran good and got me where I needed to be when I needed to be there.

Wullie.....I bet there are a lot of nice rust free older cars and trucks down your way.Alot of mid 60's stuff still on the road there ????? I might have to visit !!!

If you are gonna haul firewood with it I would take the tax return and get a set of nerf bars. They would hide the step between the box and the cab. Then a can of paint to match the two halfs.

It was an old Post Office company car. Bought September 1971 for $325. Went to Earl Scheib and had it painted for $39.95. When the family moved from California to Louisiana I drove the car. Kept it until 1973.

Mine was a 69 Pontiac Bonneville. Rusted out POS but fast. If I went on a date i would take my wet towel from the shower with me to wipe the seats down once I hit the tared road. You could fill the car up with dust going down the gravel roads but that is another story!

One source of fun was to cruise up a lovers lane with lights off and about 20ft away turn on the high beams. Laugh at the commotion in the car and follow them for a bit until we got bored. One time this big son of a gun jumped out and we figured it was best to leave. Took me a good 15 - 20 miles to loose him! I never was worried that he would catch me except I might run out of gas.:rofl2:

Ha! we used to hassle the skinheads until they chased us, used to fill the car up with bricks in case they caught us. After that we'd drive up into the hills, drink apple cider, smoke (but not tobacco) and throw molotov cocktails on the road. I'm sounding like a was a real hoon! I guess I was!

Now that young man sounds like a perfect prospect for the rigors and discipline of military life :) I'm sure that like me, when you look back on your youth and you're amazed that 1. You lived this long 2. You stayed out of jail and were never seriously injured and 3. For the most part you turned out a pretty normal, productive member of society. It sure was fun though, huh?
