In less than a month's time to threads closed!
I hope this will not be the beginning of the end of SRP. I have always enjoyed SRP's friendly atmosphere.
I would like to suggest a very simple one phrase code of conduct: As soon as you feel anger coming up while you are writing a new post think twice before you submit it.
Honestly, is this really necessary?
I don't know how much experience the SRP population has had with other internet forums, but closing a thread (for me, at least) means next to nothing. Everyone is acting like it's the beginning of the end or something. Total nonsense!
If I were a moderator, I'd be quick to close this thread. Why? Well, because it's not a discussable topic, for one thing. If you want to add to the gossip, why not post in one of the other threads that are currently devoted to it?
It's as though no one's seen an argument before. I take "Off Topic" to mean anything that's not straight razor-related. Now, thanks to one insignificant thread, we've got people trying to suggest that no one talk about hot-button issues like gun control, religion and politics; and now here you are, saying that if I'm angered by something, I shouldn't post?

It's not the closure of threads but the leaving of people who used to make a significant contribution to the quality of the forum that worries me. Both Joe Lerch and Bill Ellis have taught me things that helped me a lot. They have an above average knowledge of matters concerning straights. Their contributions will be missed. Of course: everyone is free to come and go as they like but if it is due to unnecessary agravation it just makes me sad. That's all.
Democracy is not only about free speech but also about self-censorship. With the latter I mean it is sometimes better to remain silent if you get the impression that your opinion causes someone offense.
This is a topic of great concern here. I personally don't want to see other great members driven away or threads closed regularly around here. Those kind of events and the fireworks which precede them are what have discouraged me from other forums. It's not the norm here and we should make sure it doesn't become the norm. It might be fine for other communities, but we do things differently.
I fear that suggestions like yours will not be heeded properly, but with due dilligence we can keep reminding people of our ideals.

I SO want to make a comment here, but after a 14 hour work day, I'll wait for the weekend. It seems there are MAJOR issues going on here. Once I have had time to properly cool down and collect my thoughts, I'll post.
