Thanked: 2591F-35B ship suitability test
Just came across this vid, from technological stand point that is pretty fascinating stuff.
A quote from a person involved in the program
The media and the program critics had predicted that we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors overboard.
Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates.
That was an intentional part of the sea trials. No catapult... No hook....

The F-35B variant is pretty cool. I am on the ship that is doing all the JSF testing. If I remember correctly, the jetwash is 3X hotter than a harrier. It is ridiculously loud too. It is a sight to behold though. The technology packed into this plane is amazing.
Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him, now you have a motivated idiot.

Thanked: 2027Gotta love American tech.As a young boy in the 1950s I lived on base at Moffit field as my father was in the Navy,We had free run of the entire base.
They actually had a vertical take off and land aircraft than. Was called the Pogo stick.
Huge radial prop engine,we watched the land trials every day.
Another trick plane they were testing was called the flying wing,Niether went into production.
