Hi All-My son and fishing partner Phillip just finished making his first knife. First off, Phillip and I are kindred "knife-nuts" (still working on str8s-he's only 15). Long story short, I found local custom knife-maker Ross Tyser in a feature article in the local paper. As Phillip has been taking Machine Tool coursework through our school district's vocational program (and trying for years to grind out "knives" on our bench grinder without much success), I got him hooked up with Ross, a super-nice guy and extraordinary talent who has sort of taken Phillip on as an apprentice, someone he can teach his craft. He is even going to show him how to forge damascus steel at some point!

I can't wait to see all the beautiful works of art he is going to make, and I hope he learns a life-long avocation, maybe even a career, in the process.

Anyway, here is his 1st finished knife, a drop-point skinner in 1095 steel, with Philipine mahogany laminate handle. I think he did pretty good-what do ya think?
