Thanked: 47Education cuts for military
It is truely a shame that our government would rather cut education for the people who protect this country than cut programs like welfare.... What is your guys opinion on this? I know we have a lot of retired military and active military members. For what it is worth I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your service.

There is fraud and waste in every program so it depends exactly what they are doing. There are many outfits that specialize in recruiting vets for educational programs that are worthless and they know the vet will never finish. All they want are the monies and the heck with the vet. if that's what they are cutting I'm all for it no different than removing welfare cheats from the roles. However if it's a choice between educational programs that are well run and taking someone off welfare who is truly deserving I'm afraid the welfare program comes first.

The devil is in the details, as they say. Without knowing exactly what has to be cut in favor of what, it's impossible to give an opinion. Or at least, it's very easy, but it won't be an informed opinion

Well... It is not as bad as it sounds.. The GI bill can be used while in the service.. The TA program is kind of a left over form the pre 9-11 gi bill..

Thanked: 56I think the military in the USA is on such a scale that offering any benefits to the servicemen is a HUGE commitment that is difficult to sustain in a country where taxes are so low.
In my opinion taxes should be raised in order to maintain these programs. Welfare is required in modern society since we all need some help sometimes.
Whilst the military provide a very much needed service, in the states I believe that the servicemen are effectively dodging a bullet here. It could have very easily been cuts to their jobs...

Yes there might be waste in a "technical training schools" the credits and degrees rarely are accepted in regular college programs. i also think the government should not allow federal money to pay for these for non-military people. profit is their goal not quality education.
support for community colleges, Jr colleges and regular colleges and universities ... yes federal aid is reasonable for them (sorry for the heart attack folks) but it needs to be treated like scholarships if your GPA drops below 2.0 you are cut off.
why are people taking 5 years to scrape together 120 credit hours anyhow?
enjoy,

Beats me. I got my masters degree in 4 years. And the last half year was mostly internship and lab work.
We only switched to a 5 year cycle a couple of years ago to 'harmonize with international standards'.
And as a result, the level of the students dropped. As it turns out, if you ask for less, you get it.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Sorry, I meant bachelors + masters.
I started from scratch, and had my masters degree 4 years later.
I never mention the bachelors degree because it is superseded by the masters. Back in the day we used to joke that someone with a bachelors degree was someone who didn't finish his studies.Last edited by Bruno; 03-16-2013 at 08:14 AM.
