What's the Weather Like?

Wildtim, I don't know if you've ever been to Louisiana, but I live in the South West coastal part. My parents are originally from the Mississippi/Louisiana border area --not much more north than here --but the temperatures can be colder there ,and I've experienced those cold, blue and dry days --some of my best memories as a child were winter days there with the temperature near the teens, blue skies, and dry ---and the pine trees, somehow the pine trees make a difference ---we have mostly large oak trees here --- so I know a little bit of which you speak of ---just a little. I like being a southerner, but sometimes I think I should of been born up north and maybe a little west --with the snow, grizzlies, wolverines.........

FiReStart, amazing, amazing,----that's all I can say. -40 and you start thinking of long johns. But maybe working in a shipyard, in July, 100F with high humidity, inside a ship with acetylene torches and arc welders blazing ---who knows how hot is --is something to you as well. But amazing......

Here in Colorado, this will be our sixth straight weekend with a snowstorm. It's beautiful during the week, but we get blasted on the weekends. I currently have about four feet of snow.

My driveway is a trench cut thru the snow and I have a revetment carved out to park the truck.

One boat is basically buried till Spring! :roflmao

Jimbo, as you might have seen in the news, we get hurricanes around here ---some pretty bad ones. But hurricanes are a slow to build fear --maybe over a weeks time --if you can, you head for the hills and hope you have something to come back to. But, tornadoes, that's a different animal, mate (hope it's alright for me to use the word mate). I've had a couple of near misses, and they do sound like a train coming through your living room ---make you pee a little ---scary. If there are members from "Tornado Alley" , maybe they can pipe in.

I've lived through hurricanes, I think (we call them cyclones - is that the same thing?) when I lived in Darwin, which is much closer to the equator than Bris-Vegas. Although Brisbane has been known to get a cyclone or two in the past, I think.

Mate, use the word "mate" as much as you want!:tu Actually - I tutored an American girl in the UK, and everytime I said "mate" she'd laugh. Apparantly in the US it's used to indicate a sexual partner? Or was that just her...?

Yeah, Jimbo, I think tropical cyclone is right. As far as the mate thing, maybe the girl you taught was just being a silly girl. Mate can be a sexual partner, but it's not used in everyday speech. The word mate, just isn't used ---words like pal, dude, cat, buddy, jack, -- in the south you'll see guys say words like --babe, baby doll, doll, dog, bro, , even seemingly offensive words like bitch, can be used amongst friends but you have to be carefull ---cat daddy, cap, man, daddio, etc. --but no mate. I don't know why it isn't used --Australia and the U.S. were both English colonies ---I like it though ---it has a certain punch and significance none of the other words have.
By the way, while I have you on the line, what do Americans sound like to you? Americans generally think Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans -- did I miss any --maybe some Canadians sound British or English. But Americans must sound British or English as well. Anyhow, just a question. G'day mate.

The weather has been unbelievably warm for this season in Macedonia (Balkans) as well... I was walking in t-shirt with short sleeves the other day, instead in my feather jacket, with woolen hat, and scarf up to my eyes... 20-23C. I don't remember thempeatures like this...

I enjoy the weather very much, but I just hope the Earth is not going to implode, or a big comet is coming on us, though...

I start wearing long johns once it hits 0 and all the way down to -40. I guess I wasn't clear enough, it's an ESL thing in my case lol. When it gets below -40, slush pants are a must just to keep me extra warm and I wear two sweaters instead of one (underneath the jacket ofcourse).
Yikes. I've had to enumerate in 38 degree Celsius weather (that should be close to 100F) but I never had to resort to open flame.. Only non air-conditioned and unventilated slum buildings. But I was thinking of poor souls who had to play around with torches or pave the roads and praising the Lord for not having it QUITE that bad :cool:

Reading this thread and looking at the avatars all I can think of is, "Who let the dogs out"?
