George Butler horn scales
I like to show all my first attempt in fabricating horn scales. I got it in my head to get rid of all the G-10 in my collection and replace it with horn.
I started with a panel of black buffalo saw cut the blank out and formed the shape with a razor blade (draw filing the contour) During assembly I used lead for the wedge (which I admit is to thick, but it's to late in the game to fix.) The collars are stainless steel pop rivet bodies, whose flange diameters were turned down a bit in the lathe.
I use the pop rivets because they look great , are tougher then hell, and most of all they are dirt cheap to buy (roughly 12 cents a rivet how can you beat it?)
Thanks for looking,
Darl (Tarkus)
