I would say this was a good ebay find. Blade has almost no hone wear.
Very pretty! Do you have a before picture?
Excellent job on the scales, I envy those! I might try making some with the same shape, only I do not have the same bolt/pin you used.
No I don't have a before. Didn't think of taking one unfortunately.
The scales were purchased from Hart. I had to drill out the blade pin hole so the bolt/pin would fit
Heh, I was going to say they looked a lot like Hart's scales, I thought you had used their's as inspiration ;)
Beautiful job. Congratulations
Nice work. Let us know how she shaves.
I honed with Norton 1,4,8k, finished with a china 12k. Didn't like the finished edge. Went back to the 8k and tried a stone I recently picked up. I think it is a translucent arkie. It put a very nice mirror finish on the bevel. Then I went to balsa with paste and stropped on my linen and leather. Very nice shaver. Smooth cutting with a nice ring as it cuts the hair on my face..:D
That is a very nice looking set-up. May I ask what type of pin you have there? It looks like you counter-sunk it into the wood. Its a neat effect.
This was a set of scales I purchased from Hart Steel. They use an Allen head screw and nut. I had to drill out the tang of the razor to accommodate them. I like them. Some people say they loosen up as you use the razor, and if they do I will use something to "lock" the threads a little. Maybe some type of rubber cement, as long as it is not so strong that I have problems removing them if needed.
Nice restore. Very classy look. I haven,t heard the term "ring when it cuts" in a long time. I will say it would be the satisfaction of a hone well done!! I have to say that when shaving and hearing that "ring" seems to make it a much more enjoyable shave. Thanks for sharing!!
