First Straight Razor restoration (J.A Hellberg)

This was my first rastoration, have verry little tools because i am a student, and only live in a small student apartment. So no room for equipment and other helpfull stuff. But did my best, still got to fix the pins a bit, and clean up the scale, was really clumsy with the pinning.

Made scales or Acrylic sheets, and cleaned the blade with wet&dry sandpaper and micro mesh.
Can't wait to try out the Razor and will be one of my few razors so far, and my first razor from sweden.

Razor is not honed yet, because i haven't learned that yet since i started only 2 months ago shaving with SR

Looks just fine to me, you can do a lot with hand sanding. Once you get that chip honed out I see no reason it will not serve you well.

already removed the chip before i started to hand sand the razor

The bottom picture was before restoration, top after. Was yellow plastic scales that was cracked when i got it, so removed them at once.

Really nice job. Congratulations. I just finished my first also. Listed under "First Restoration - Fredrick Reynolds". Isn't it a great feeling to bring a beautiful tool like that back to life and purpose? Good luck.

You also did a great job with that Fredrick Reynolds SR. Yea it is a fantastic feeling when you finally get it done, and i guess the best thing will be when you finally can shave with it. I want to try out to make scales of wood like you, but have not found any wood with much life in it around here for sale. and acrylic sheet was then easyer to get

Try specialty stores that only carry wood for refinishing furniture and such. I am going back to the place that I got the purple heart wood and see if they have nice zebra wood or somehting as nice. Good luck.
