Thanked: 203The J.R.Torrey restoration
Hi All,
today we have a razor from The J.R.Torrey Company, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Fancy handle scales with the famous Torrey “warts” to hold the razor closed. Date of patent on the scales is "Aug. 1 1905". The tang of the razor has mother of pearl overlays and the original razor box is serviceable though a little worn.
Matched up to another of my strops i have made from Merbau with CrOx pasted balsa on one side and leather, sanded down to 2K and treated with neatsfoot oil for a light draw, on the other.
Newly assembled Silver Tip badger hair shave brush with ivory coloured acrylic handle and drip stand- parts from TGN.
Honing progression was on the Naniwa SS; 1K, 5K, 10K, 12K then CrOx on balsa followed by leather.
A joy to shave with.
Pictures, as all of them are lately, were taken by my wonderful daughter Mae. She has a far better eye for photography than i do.
Regards,
Adam.

Beautiful razor. I am envious Adam. Well restored!! The hole in the end of the tang intrigues me. Do you know why it is there? Thanks for sharing!!

That is a nice restore! thank you! You daughter does nice photos!
I have never seen Torrey warts before, at least for any of the Torrey's I have worked upon. I did see that scale pattern which had eaten a blade to extinction in a junk shop with a price of ...$55!
