It's an original and looks great - nice work!
I haven't read up too much about this sort of thing. Sounds like you didn't temper this in a forge or anything, but just spend time grinding up a file - is that correct?

Yea, to my understanding old files were made of the same high carbon tool steel suitable for razors and we're already tempered to be a fine edge tool. The grain on the steel seems really Fine and I'm thinking the file has the hardness needed to hold a keen edge. This is so long you don't blow the temper of the steel by over heating which I was very cautious not to do. I know some people who forge blade will use old files as steel stock and after heating to critical they will re cycle the blade through normalizing annealing and tempering; I however dont have the set up at this time....
Thanks for your kind words!
That's great work! I hope you enjoy it for a long time.
Congratulations on the blade, it is a great feeling to shave with a self made razor. Happy shaving.

Excellent job! That looks really great, man. Congrats. If that's your first, i can only imagine how great you'll do on future projects.

Nice looking blade and hope it shaves as good as it looks :tu
To do that with an already hardened blade is a feat in itself. A job well done.
Very nice blade! It sort of brings it all together. Sheffield nose, kamisori style, dragonlike tail. It's a one of a kind. Thanks for elaborating on the old file grinding. That's also on my list of "things that can acceptably be tried and hopefully will come out okay at home". Now let me go search for a file. :)
