You never know until you try. I spen a lot of time reading, watching videos and restoring and re grinding razors before I gave it a try. As for tools I don't have a knife factory or a forgery either.

The razor was made only using a 4 x 32 table top belt sander ($100) a Dremel 4000 ($130) with various cutting and grinding bits ($20) and few belts ($15)........ A bucket of ice water to keep the blade cool and whole lot of time as grinding a hardened steel blade tales a long time as you must be mindful of the temper of the steel

It's an original and looks great - nice work!

I haven't read up too much about this sort of thing. Sounds like you didn't temper this in a forge or anything, but just spend time grinding up a file - is that correct?

Yea, to my understanding old files were made of the same high carbon tool steel suitable for razors and we're already tempered to be a fine edge tool. The grain on the steel seems really Fine and I'm thinking the file has the hardness needed to hold a keen edge. This is so long you don't blow the temper of the steel by over heating which I was very cautious not to do. I know some people who forge blade will use old files as steel stock and after heating to critical they will re cycle the blade through normalizing annealing and tempering; I however dont have the set up at this time....

    Thanks for your kind words!
