    Default 7/8" 1084 Barber's Notch in Pink G10

    Greetings everyone,

Here is a razor that I'm just finishing up for someone. It's a 7/8" Barber's Notch in Pink G10. The blade steel is 1084. The pins are nickel silver, as are the knurled rivets. The interior washers are phosphor bronze. I used a Grobet checkering file (30 lines per inch) to cut the jimps. I'll hone the razor tomorrow, and then I can deliver it.

very nice! I like the knurled collars. I especially like the mix of vintage looking toe with more modern rear end with the extended tail. that's a style I really like a lot. how do you like the 1084 for a razor? im currently working on 6 blades in 1084 to test out, havnt used it before.

    Thanks everyone!

Silverloaf, this is the 2nd razor I've completed, and the first one in 1084. I can tell you that the blade honed up nicely and shaves cleanly. How long the edge will last, I can't really say. I made it for one of the female barber's at the barber shop I go to. She says she will use it on customers and let me know how it holds up. Until I hear from her, I can't really tell you more.

I did find that the extended, someone pointy, tips of the G10 scales interferes a bit with your grip when stropping. But that may also be partially due to the narrow tang. I don't think I would use the two features in conjunction again, unless I couldn't dissuade a customer from wanting them both.

Also, while I do like using G10 for scales, I'm finding that it's abrasive enough to leave scuff marks on the sides of the blade where they meet in the closed position (even with the inner edges rounded over). I may try lining the G10 with something more forgiving...
