U.S.S. Dreadnaught…7/8 Hollow Ground Dreadnaught Point W. Picard No. 46!

I really enjoyed working on this one…Here’s a beauty that was a real pleasure to restore. And it’s a simply stellar shaver...Silky smooth!

A 'W. Picard No. 46', 7/8 hollow ground with a dreadnaught point. Restored with a two-tone polished Crocus finish, brilliant on the tang and spine and satin on the blade face. The original horn scales were restored and then pinned with brass domed washers and pins.

Although independently I couldn’t find much information regarding the manufacturer “W. Picard”, however, thanks to the fine folks here on SRP…most particularly members 'Neil Miller' and 'Solinger'…I was able to glean this information:

“In 1869 CG Carl Greis, the owner of W.PICARD was living & working in Wuppertal-Kronenberg, back then not yet a suburb of Wuppertal, but an independent village nearby Solingen. These straight razors were produced in the late 19th century from 1870 to 1890.”

Regardless of the exact origin of this razor, it is an absolute beauty, and a real treat to shave with. Well balanced, and for its size, quite easy to maneuver around the face. I love it…

Thanks Guys! FYI Johnny... a Crocus finish is done with crocus cloth or paste (Iron Oxide). It is close to what they originally used to polish razors back in the day so the finish looks original. It's polished but not quite as 'shiny' as what is commonly referred to as a 'mirror' shine. I have also been playing around with a leaded leather wheel to polish, which they also used back in the day.

...Gobsmacked huh? Thanks Andrew...I really appreciate it. BTW...I do too...love the blade shape that is. The profile of the point just knocks me over...it is so cool! Surprisingly, for a big razor, it is deceptively light in the hands.
