Beau Brummel Wedge in Ebony One piece scale

I just completed this restore of my first BB Wedge. Posted some of the work along the way in other threads but here's the completed razor.

I used a discount piece of mottled Ebony for the scale, my scroll saw for the scale build, some superblue bluing solution for the Beau Brumel two tone effect at the tang, (thx for the tip Tom) and a lot of patience in the final sanding of the CA finish. Hard to capture the depth of finish with m iphone sadly.
Putting it to the stones tonight in anticipation of my pre-Movember face de foliating tomorrow.
First time my upper lip will have seen daylight since,, gulp,, 1985..

Wow !!....That ebony sure came out great. I thought it was horn at first. Two questions:
1. How many coats of CA ?
2. Is the ebony one piece ?

Very nice. That is an interesting piece of ebony. It reminds me of the original scales I had on a couple of Beau Brummels.

Bingo, yes 1 piece of ebony sliced lengthwise on my scroll saw.
9 coats of CA, sanded every third coat. 320, 600, 1000 grit progression.
Cut and buffed on the wheel with crox.
Pics don't do it justice as far as depth of color. But I'm happy they turned out this time.

Very nice. That is an interesting piece of ebony. It reminds me of the original scales I had on a couple of Beau Brummels.

I appreciate that comment JS. I was trying to replicate the original BB swirl effect on the scales with my homemade attempt.

This was what it looked like when received with the scales I could not save.

Taking time at the start, reading the tips on here from folk like Glen and learning through their experiences and others is key.
I put on my first three coats before I noticed a fingerprint I missed. Figured it would be ok and I wouldn't see it later. Added three more, cold still see it. Started over..
I've tried to do CA twice before only to give up after I rushed the sanding and went back to urethanes. Really appreciate the faster drying time and final hardness and luster of CA and will be trying it out more than a few more times I see in the winter months ahead..

That's what it takes, Mike. Constant learning. You are coming along much nicer than us 'hammer and screwdriver' types!
