Finished My Shorty
Finally finished my shorty. It's a 9/16 Torrey Little Guard with an edge just over 2 inches. It turned out to be a PITA. The tang has a slight bend in it. Its nothing serious, but the blade has a twist in it, not a warp. It turned out to be a bigger pain to center than razors that had a huge bend. The scales are horn and I haven't had a set that wouldn't turn to black glass until these. No matter what I did they just didn't want to take a dark, deep shine. Soaked them for 24hrs and after sanding and polishing they just turned out shiny, but not that dark glass look so I resoaked them even longer and still nothing. I guess they kind of go with the razor since I left some pitting on the blade and match the aged look better. Couldn't use the lead wedge that went with the scales because it threw off the balance so I had to make a bone wedge since I don't like to use plastics with horn. Well after having 2 wedges crack I finally managed to get one right. The 5/8 Morley that I placed next to it in the photo hit the edge on the spine so now that one will need to be touched up (if I'm lucky thats all it will need). Anyway here it is. I am still excited even after all I had to go through because I finally have a shorty that I didn't have to cut down a razor to make one.
