Thread: Another little seen Sheffield maker...J.S.Warner

A search here turned up nothing on this maker so I thought I post this.
Joseph Sims Warner was listed as a cutlery merchant in Portobello Street at Hecla Works in the mid 1850's. By 1858 Warner was bankrupt.
The blade is a smiling 7/8 wedge to 1/4 hollow grind with a thinner and lighter spine than I see on other Sheffield blades of this size and time period. The pitting was much deeper than it first appeared and I had doubts it would clean up. The tang still bares the scars to save the makers stamp. Except for some delamination the pressed horn scales are in great shape and spent a day in neatsfoot oil before reassembly with the original lead wedge.
