Saponificio Varesino soap dish
Some how I got off work at 1:30 today, so I headed to Pops' house to turn a lidded soap dish for my Saponificio Varesino soap puck. Neded the big lathe for this one. These days I've been buying a lot of wood that is flying under the radar from all the woodworkers. Why???, cause they're cheap, and there's a lot that no ones heard of that are more beautiful than the ones that are popular. Take for instance a wood called Dalmata. It's hard, heavy, has a crazy fleck of chatoyence, and has a natural occuring "spalting" effect, thats not spalting at all..... It's simply beautiful stuff so I decided to use it for this project. Great thing about this wood is it cost me $12 Canadian.
Here's the the dish. I used an oil called Tried and tru Varnish oil that is all natural, with no chemical dryers. You could eat a spoonful of the stuff and it wouldn't kill you....... might make you sick though. :) Really like this oil.
