Thread: Cracked F.R. Modified

I love restoring blades but that was out of the question for this cracked Reynolds.
Since that was the case I threw caution to the wind and went at it.
I removed the metal from behind the split and radiused it up to the bottom of the shaft. Here too I redid the straight line under the shaft to a more graceful arc.
On the top above the mark there was a weird hump. Off it came to contour this line more gracefully into the tail where here to I removed much of the curl and thinned it out quite a bit.
Since there was no need for remnants of a shoulder I removed them too creating a shoulder less swept blade. At the tip there was a half hearted attempt at a barbers notch which looked just awful so away it went and I simply dropped the top of the spine in another arch right down to the edge.
One thing I did keep was the tapered width of the blade from toe to heel but did raise the hone line up a bit and thinned it out .
I nearly went mirror finish but felt the contrast between a satin brushed blade and polished everything else really set off the line between blade face and the spine/shaft.

I sketched up a design I felt was fitting for the new shape of the blade and scrounged up some pieces of streaked horn from the scrap pile for the scales. The warm
amber and streaks along with the double stacks at the white wedge give it a new " custom " where only hours ago sat a cracked vintage razor.
Some are beyond saving in the traditional way so having some fun hot rodding what was a junk piece was quite fun.
something else for the rotation and not in the landfill.

I love the way you made it shoulderless! It really hides the previous location of the heel/stabilizers.

Nice work, as usual. Do I see it well the pin at the wedge is bigger (and has two washers) than the other one? By desing of course.

Yes there are 2 at the wedge end. And a single at the hinge .
