Tuckmar Special Restoration

This Tuckmar Special was in great shape when I purchased it four or five years ago. I let it sit around for too long without checking on it and cell rot had done a number on it. This project was pretty spontaneous, so I didn't think to take any before pictures.

There was a bit of rust on the front of the blade and lots of fairly deep rust on the back. After getting nowhere with the higher grits, it finally cleaned up reasonably well after a long while with some 220 wet/dry. This blade is very thin, but luckily most of the pitting was on the thicker area below the spine. I mainly focused my sanding to that area using a one inch sleeveless sanding drum. After working through the grits and polishing, the tang was given six or seven applications of cold blue.

Since this blade was a victim of cell rot, new scales were needed. I decided to go with "bone" linen micarta with a black linen micarta wedge. I usually like the more classic scale shapes, but I tried for a more modern look with these.

Very Nice! I really like the contrasting color with the wedge. Also, the mirror finish is most excellent. I love the look of highly polished steel.

Wow great work Bejay, you did a fantastic job on this one. I love hammered tangs one is on my list to acquire.

Nice job. It sounds like you turned a hollow ground blade into an extra hollow. Going from 220 grit sandpaper to a high shine muist have taken a lot of work.

You did a great job on the scales. They contrast nicely with the dark colored hammered tang.
