That is a nice Greaves. It polished-up pretty nice. Are those scales original? I have one from around 1816 and it is a near-wedge and right at 1". One of the original bone scales is broken. I guess I'll replace them with something really nice, like Paua abalone or something similar.
"The scales are faux tortoise made from a polyester material. They more closely resemble the dyed horn scales the Sheffield makers were so fond of using. The scales are thin at .110. Flat and fairly straight with a bevel around the edges as commonly found from this time period."
From the description in the first post.
OMG i love it. One hell of a razor.
Great job!
How is that polyester fake tortoise to work with? I keep being tempted to buy some to play with, and never get around to it. It looks good!
Another beauty!

It tends to be soft but stiff enough for good scales. The company that makes this for Masecraft changes the pattern some with each lot. Some does not look good as a tortoise copy and it does not look like what they show as a picture on their website. You should call them before ordering.
Fantastic work, that is really nice.
Looks like Masecraft doesn't currently have any. It's been so long since I was looking at it, I don't remember if it was the stuff they sell/sold or not. I recall there was a specialized vendor that did just imitation tortoise shell.
Doing a quick search, I found this stuff which I'm a little tempted to try:
