    Default First Re-scaling

    Hello, Glabrouphiles!

I recently received this cherished blade off another member here on SRP and, given that it came to me in cracked scales, I thought it as good an excuse as any to try my hand at making some new scales.

I've been cleaning and restoring blades for a little while (nothing that I think is worthy of showing off up until now), so have gotten a method down for un-pinning and re-pinning razors, but this was the first time I've made scales from scratch. I used black, streaked water-buffalo and, after an initial shaping, I went for a more modern style of scales with a blunt toe-end. The shaped spacer is bakelite which I'd hoped would produce a little more contrast than it did in the end.

The razor needed minimal cleaning and I like the overall look and feel in the hand of its (admittedly chunky) new scales.

Since I took these pics, I've put a new bevel on this bad boy and finished the edge on my favourite coticule. It shaves like a dream. I can definitely see this becoming my new favourite razor, too.
