Thread: A pair of traveler razors by Wade

A rare gentleman's set of travel razors. Robert Wade was listed as a razor manufacturer on Arundel St. in 1816. In 1821 he join with William Butcher forming 'Wade & Butcher' becoming one of the most famous and prosperous cutlery firms in Sheffield. The blades are quite small at less than 5/8 with an arris spine. The show face of the spine at one time had an etching but it was not legible on one blade and had been completely sanded off on the other. The decorative plunge ground tang is unusual. The blade is restored with glazed finished blade faces and crocus finished spine and tang. The scales are ivory with a lead wedge and copper pins. A standard size razor is shown for comparison.
