Yes, make the wedge back, half the thickness of the front and drill the hole in the wedge a bit larger, then it does not matter that it is not square to the pin and makes fitting easier.
Just rub on a piece of 220 and put your finger pressure on the back half, measure with calipers until you get to proper thickness and sides are flat.
Are you going to shim the hole in the pivot? That’s a big hole.
Where the hole is centered will change the length. I would glue in a brass tube. Fill the hole with JB Weld, then drill the hole square. Glue in a tube with 1/16th inch ID.
