    Default Bengall wedge

The wedge on this razor is not a wedge at all but just spacer. But is had a piece of wood placed in front of it.

my question is do i reuse this wood or leave it out? Or make a new wedge?
The blade although lose it opened and closed fine and look centered.

    Thanks

Do you have a picture before it was unpinned, how much of a gap was between tip and wedge?

Probably a rescaled razor with after market scales and a spacer added to better fit the gap.

That scale style was a popular replacement design and is really too wide for the blade.

That there is a gap does not affect the operation, I have seen many old school rescales like this, you do not need the wood.

    No picture at that angle.

But still the spacer is not a wedge so should I make it into one or just use it the way it is?

    Thanks

Yes, make the wedge back, half the thickness of the front and drill the hole in the wedge a bit larger, then it does not matter that it is not square to the pin and makes fitting easier.

Just rub on a piece of 220 and put your finger pressure on the back half, measure with calipers until you get to proper thickness and sides are flat.

Are you going to shim the hole in the pivot? That’s a big hole.

Where the hole is centered will change the length. I would glue in a brass tube. Fill the hole with JB Weld, then drill the hole square. Glue in a tube with 1/16th inch ID.

I have not thought about the pivot hole yet. I do not have any brass tube but I believe I do have some stainless with a 1/16 ID if not ill have to order some in brass.

But if I am going to fill the hole with JB weld couldn't I just drill it to size and put the pin through without a sleeve?

You could just fill it with JB but JB won’t put up with much for wear, it is quite soft in that regard. Also clean is the key for getting JB to grab hold. I use finger nail polish remover to get rid of all of the oils and gunk.

I have used crazy glue and baking soda to fill an overly large pivot hole and I have also used brass tube with with 1/16 ID. They both worked so far.
