Default First 2 Restos Solingen & Sheffield

    Finally got these posted.
Started the W&B first but finished the Es-Ex first. Had no idea what a steep learning curve this would be - soooo many blunders, soooo much work but very satisfying nonetheless. Lottsa help from Bill Ellis' CD.

Both blades were quite pitted but was able to grind out the W&B on a wet grinder then hand sanded, buffed and off to the engraver. He thought it was stainless - took him 4 passes on a machine with diamond cutters.

The Wald came with thrust washers which I reused as the tang was originally cut for them. Never seen that before. Needless to say the pivot is sweet. The 3rd pin is purely cosmetic. Just did it for the exercise but got the placement wrong.
Both are finished in CA but the oak on the Wald is not buffed to a high sheen, kinda satin like the blade.

The Arizona Desert Ironwood on the W&B came up pretty but I rubbed thru in a few spots No matter it's not for sale
Tried to recreate the chunky rivet look on the W&B with stainless washers and brass pins. Next time I might recess the #2 washer.
Most importantly they honed up well and shave great

The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
