Thanked: 13249Stub Tail W Greaves & Sons Restore
This Greaves was sent in for a full restore... I kept it as close to original looking as possible but re-did the entire razor....
Josh who owns it, and I both are looking for before pics of this one, I am pretty sure I have some, if I find them i will post them later
All the rust pitting and the 100+ years of patina all disappeared with enough work on the wheels....
The finish is near perfect mirror...
The old horn scales just could not be saved, but I used the same lines for the new scales that were cut outta Wenge... I tried to keep the same look about the overall razor but still tossed in a few of my own touches like the brass lined ebony wedge....
All the new hardware is pure brass and the razor balances to the tang...
The finish is Tru-Oil gun stock finish, fingertip rubbed with IIRC 6 coats...
This took a wee bit of doing to get the Wenge smoothed up...

Good call on maintaining the scale shape like the original. The brass-lined wedge is a nice accent to it.

When I sent this razor to Glen, I didn't know exactly what it would look like as a finished product. Like he said, we wanted to keep as much of the original character as possible, and I think he succeeded beyond my exceedingly high expectations.
Glen, you are an artist, and it has been an absolute pleasure dealing with you on this one.
Like I said in my PM to you, it is fitting that I see this tonight, as I just had one of those memorably good shaves with my favorite Greaves. I have this feeling that it's going to have really good company pretty soon.
Those scales are PERFECT! ANd that wedge really is great looking.

Captured the essence of that one nicely there G.
The Wenge works wellThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
