Default Morley & Sones Clover Brand 5/8 barber notch in figured Red Narra

I love these razors. I have ha half dozen of them in my collection and I still keep purchasing new ones. I picked this one up a couple of months ago. Overall it was not in bad shape, a bit of age on the steel but no pitting and light hone ware. I gave it a sanding up through 6000 grit and then three buffing compounds on the polishing wheels to get it a near mirror shine.

The scales are bees-wing figured red Narra. I love this wood. The grain and depth the figuring adds is exquisite. I had put these scales back for myself but thought this blade was deserving of them. They are finished in a high gloss epoxy resin. The wedge is made from lacewood and the pins are 1/16 brass rod with a brass over stainless washer. The blade has brass thrust bearings.

It honed up like every other Morley I have, hard. The steel in these blades is exceptional hard but once you have an edge on that magnetic steel (yes the blades are magnetized) it holds it for a long time. The shave is as good as any Wade and Butcher. I actually like it better than a W&B which is why I only have 2 of those in my rotation and several Morley's.

This bad boy will be going into the classifieds in a few hours for some new lucky owner.

A new fact I learned about Red Narra, it comes from the same tree as Amboyna burl so it is a Southeast Asia wood i.e. Vietnam, Thailand, Burma...
