Thumbs up Wade & Butcher, Sheffield - The Celebrated ~ Bird's Eye Maple

    Here's a W&B that needed some TLC.

The blade had lots of patina and pitting. Basically I tried to clean her up as much as possible but the patina went so deep I could not remove all of it. There was also some heavy pitting on the front blade and tang side. As to not lose the etching and markings I had to be very careful and decided to stop the cleaning process until I felt it was time to stop.
The end result is great. The blade has that vintage, aged look but at the same time looks clean too.

As to the scales I was requested to use bird's eye maple but dye it with a red/brown color. It got the dye, shellac and poly treatment. After several weeks of dyeing, layering, sanding and drying time it finally got finalized and is ready to go back.

Those maple scales really take a long time as the curing is very important but the results are always stunning.

    Enjoy.
