Filarmonica #14 Especial Para barba Duras ~ Canvas Micarta
First I got the Filarmonica #14 the respect it deserved amongst the big shavers and now I can give them a new dress.
The most tricky part is the tang rubber grip. It makes the whole tang extremely wide. You only have 2 options. Work around it or under it.
For this one I decided to work around it. I really had to taper the wedge at a steep angle as to give the micarta scales a bow flex. It worked out exactly as I had planned. No need for a third pin. The wedge is peened rock solid.
I used natural brown canvas micarta with a ivory micarta wedge. Pins are nickel silver with a stacked mix of SS and Brass washers.
This one belongs to one of our SRP members.
Enjoy.

that looks like it's built for the road, ready to go anywhere. tough enough to take anything. the canvas micarta is perfect for that, makes me ask why didn't I think of that? I was wondering how you would tackle the thumb grip. strong lines on the scales. beautiful work my friend.

Great looking scales Max.
The factory scales don't do these Fili's justice, they are just too flimsy and cheap feeling to me. Your Rescale looks great with this big hunk of metal.
They remind me of the old Tweed fender guitar cases.

Max, you know I always like your work... but now it's just getting rediculous. I don't have enough money for you to keep egging me on like this. I am seriously going to go bankrupt just thinking about how many of your restores I would like to have.

I'm not sure if i'm a big fan of micarta in that colour. It's ok, but there are plenty of others i like more. Apart from that, the workmanship is your usual impeccable standard! Love the pins & washers, & the wedge looks great!
