First Restoration
This was my first shot at a restoration - a Robeson Shuredge that I got without scales. The pictures speak for themselves, but here are my shoulda/woulda/coulda's:
I shoulda been a little more careful and patient during the blade sanding, making sure the get out even the finest scratches.
I shoulda done more research and coulda tried to preserve the hammered tang instead of getting out the pitting.
I woulda forgone almost all sanding and relied almost exclusively on Glen's tumbler idea had Rob had the tumbler from the getgo.
I shoulda used a lighter touch when I sanded the shape of the scales, but that'll take time to learn.
Anyway, this is a Robeson Shuredge, the blade was hand sanded to 2K, then put in a tumbler with corn cob media and Turtle Wax. The scales are Atlante Poly in MOP. The wedge is Faux ivory. The acrylic's pretty easy to work with, but I've got to get some "skills." Where do you get those?
I'm really happy with this razor and just got a nice shave with it. Thanks to everyone who's posted their tips for rescaling and restores on SRP, I'm sure it helped. Thanks Rob for letting me work on this at your place. Oh, and thanks Dylan for honing this sucker at the NYC meet.
