Thumbs up Boker - For special occasions - Tuxedo wear

Jon was so kind to send me his boker with the kind request to dress it up.

The original tang cover was broken and discolored. The original scales were still OK but Jon wanted something special to his liking. So I got asked to use black micarta for the tang cover and faux ivory micarta for the scales with a matching contrasting black wedge.

As you can tell from the before pics the tang was pretty rusted after removal of the old tang covers. I was afraid it was going to be very brittle since it's extremely tin. I managed to remove the rust and used the greaseless to clean everything up.

Now for anyone venturing into replacing tang covers. Basically one very important piece of advise. Cover up and tape the edge of the razor. That way you can really work with the razor in your hand cause once you start sanding the tang covers and finetuning everything you will be moving that razor in every possible way one can imagine.

As mentioned tang covers were fitted with black paper micarta, scales with faux ivory paper micarta, tapered black paper wedge and nickel silver hardware. Blade got restored and polished to a high mirror shine.

Everything fitted perfectly and I was relieved the blade itself didn't have any real issues with off centering between the scales.

    Enjoy.
