Basic MAAS question

Just got my first two tubes of MAAS. I have a dumb question. What is the most effective way to apply and use this stuff. The directions are vague. Do I need to buff it off with my dremel buffing attachment or all by hand or what?

I apply on a towel type of rag, say ~1" wide strip ~12"(usually the width of the rag) and then polish by hand, repeat 1 or two more times, then hand buff with clean rag. Works very well for me.

+1...This is exactly what I do too. It works like a charm

so buffing doesn't have to be a buffing wheel or attachment

Don't be surprised when you see the cloth or rag turn pitch black, It means it's working. Just keep buffing. I like to use old cotton t-shirts.

I use papertowels and rub with my fingers till the gunk is gone, but not the patina :p

I'm the same, I put some on a cloth and polish with it.

I've also applied some to the blade and polished it off with a Dremel. You can see Lynn doing this in his DVD, and it works very well at shining up the metal. It wont remove any black gunk or patina though, so you need to remove all of that before you start.

I have done this, but only on low speed and really only after handsanding a blade.

If I am just removing surface stuff, I use a lint free cloth and do it by hand.

Nope. Don't like Deremels for polishing at all. I use a 2" looseleaf cotton wheel on my grinder/buffer for restores otherwise by hand avoiding the edge..

I've used a Dremel. Just used it on two razors this past Sunday. But I'll only use one for some of the really tough stuff that is hard to hand polish out.

You also must be very careful. While it has not happened to me, I hear of others that have had the blade ripped out of their hand, blades broken, etc.

I use a jig with rare earth magnets to hold the blade, also watch the rotation of the polishing felt. Never allow rotation into the blade edge. I use only 1000 rpm, the lowest setting on mine. Wear gloves and safety glasses.

Personally I think it helps if you've used a Dremel for other things and are already familiar with one. I use mine to keep the dog's nails ground back.
