Default If satan used a razor, this would be it, Paduk/Ebony 8/8 Barbers Use

I made a set of scales a year or two ago that I really liked. A blood wood lined ebony with a mosaic pin and a W&B blade. I ended up having to sell it for Christmas but keep thinking back to those scales. I took the lessons learned and made a new set. These scales are Paduk lined with Gabon ebony laminate. The difficult part is getting the scales, all 4 pieces, exactly the same thickness. The Paduk is just over 1/16 thick and the Ebony nearly paper thin at 1/32 of an inch thick. The ebony is epoxied to the Paduk with a few hundred pound of pressure to insure a solid bond. Then the scales were cut. When the edges are routed over the ebony is cut away leaving a 1/16 inch deep blood red border with the jet black ebony overlay. The scales are finished in epoxy resin which hardens the wood even more and builds up the thickness of the scales to around 1/8 of an inch total. The deep resin finish gives the wood a deep, you could swim in it, high gloss finish. The wedge is straight Ebony, pins are 1/16 brass rod with brass over stainless washers. Once peened, the entire thing gets a very light pass on chromium oxide to smooth out and polish the pins and scales.

The blade is a 8/8 Wade and Butcher For Barbers Use barber notch wedge. It is a classic case of I wish I had a before photo. The blade had some pitting but nothing to severe but it was charcoal gray to black with tarnish and age. The blade got a full run on the greaseless compounds then it went to hand sanding up through 2500 grit paper, then a full complement of compounds on the buffer to mirror polish it. The mirrored blade reflects the blood red Paduk wood giving the red border even more depth when the blade is closed.

Quite wicked yet elegant looking in my opinion. I plan on hanging onto this one. I will sell the wife before I give this one up.

    Enjoy the eye candy.
