WOW! I love it. How did to attach the Fairy's?
Thanks!
The brass Fairies are charms, that came flat. First I contoured them to fit the scale curvature. After scales polished to 12000, and buffed (thanks Glen for mentioning the MicroMesh kit) I positioned the the charms where I wanted them, to pencil out the outline, and roughed up where they would be. Wiped the scales and Fairies down with acetone, Mixed up Devcon 5 min epoxy, putting on the back of the charms. Squeegeed away some excess to ensure even coverage, placing charms to the spot. Clamped with some binder clips as dried.
Next time, I'll use slower cure epoxy. It would have been nice to do some clean up while wet. There was still residual that squeezed out. That was a tough thing to clean out. First tried to polish off with the dremmel. The Fairies lost some of their, um, perkiness and wound up too bright and shinny. Although now that they are little less defined, I am more comfortable with the image on my desktop at work. Took a small knife to clean all that residual up. I wound up burning into the G10 just a little, so had to get back into sanding, and that was disheartening. Sanded up to 12000 again paying attention to all those crevices around the brass.
Since the brass was now too shinny, tarnished them a little over vinegar vapors. From there it was assembly time.
Love it, excellent work, congrats!
'Curious where you got the gold fairy ornament for the scales. I've always loved the bow tie and sculpted bolsters.
I see someone else asked also. sorry to repeat.
'Very very handsome work. Anyone would be proud to own that.
Wow! Thats amazing work and a lot of work.
Beautiful scales and good blade too.
Graceful, slim scales. Nice !
Holy smoke that looks really really really nice
The real question is: Are you ever going to try and shave with that after a few absinthes? I usually read some Poe after imbibing the green fairy, and that's scary enough. Great job!
