Thread: "Shorty" Deutsch

I had an Otto Deutsch that a previous owner severely over-honed the point. There was a full 1/4" difference in the blade width heel to point so I shortened it to exactly 2 inches in length - heel to point. The spine was .035 less at the point than at the heel which backs up my claim that the point was over-honed.

After shortening the blade, the difference in spine width heel to point is only .007.

I like everything to be straight, uniform and parallel. Shortening the blade was the only solution I could think on "short" notice........

Sorry I did not photo it before I cut it off. I will now attempt to hone the shortest blade I have...........
