Default Allman & Almond Brothers Razors

No, gentlemen, this is not a new subsidiary of Bob Allman's OCD Razors. These two razors are a product my fantastic weekend at Bob Allman's home. Although we're not related, Bob & I just happen to share a similar sounding last name. I couldn't resist playing on the name of the Allman Brothers Band (especially considering my name is Greg Almond).

It suffices to say that it's amazing what you can accomplish when you have Bob looking over your shoulder. I rank this weekend as one of my top life experiences. I can not say enough great things about Bob! Not only is he a gifted razorsmith, but he is a unassuming and sincere gentleman. He and his family were gracious beyond my wildest dreams during my visit. I now count Bob as a true friend.

I shaved with the blue scaled razor yesterday and the green scaled razor this morning. They shave as sweet as they look. It is definitely a satisfying experience shaving with something that you made. The concept of making a straight razor is relatively simple - you merely start with a 1" x 6" x 1/2" 1095 steel blank and get rid of everything that doesn't look like a sexy razor. However, the execution is much more involved that I ever imagined.

I took pictures of most of the razor making process that I'll post later this evening. I did a lot of HD video of the process that I'll attempt to post at some point in the future when I'm brave enough to fight the video editing software

I apologize for the poor quality of these pictures - I do fairly decent wildlife photography, but haven't conquered close-ups yet.
