Default Mother of Pearl and others...

I've become a "lurker" these past couple months and haven't posted. A lot of the razors that I've been seeing on this forum are just amazing and they keep getting better. Please keep them coming.
Anyway, I've been experimenting with MOP and below are some scales that I made. I found some high grade MOP slabs and it looks beautiful but extremely hard to photograph. The colors and depth are excellent but I could not capture it. The 5 panel razor is actually black mop and is the nicest of the bunch but again, you will have to use your imagination at what they look like in person. The turquoise was ground out from a good size stone and fit to size. I think I may have posted the abalone before. It's made from red abalone slab with thin jade G10 liner which manages the flex nicely. The bone is giraffe with some color added to make it a little more interesting. And lastly, I took the crappy plastic scales off of a new Filarmonica 8/8 that I've been holding and scaled it with thin silver twill. So that's what I've been up to lately. Now I am looking for a new medium to try. I might, in the meantime, I may try engraving or carving some mop scales as I still have some left to play with. I hope you like the scales.

Great job, they all are stunning. I don't think I can pick a favorite.

    Hey,

I have a question about the 5 panel razor. I have sheets of real MOP tile left over from my kitchen remodel. How thick are the panels? The tiles are 1 inch X 1 inch. I haven't made my own scales yet, but there is a lot of the material left over.

I sent a sheet out to Dirtychrome to see if he is able to figure something out.
