Here are before and after pictures. A 15/16 blade. This is my first set of horn scales. They are a copy of the originals which were broken. I was able to save the original pin washers. I had to make a new lead wedge also as the original was to pitted on the edges to save. The pin washers were 2 pieces which I thought was interesting. One iron washer inside each brass washer. I think they were there to re-enforce the brass and keep it from crushing down. I made new inner washers from brass since the iron was pretty badly corroded. I went light with the abrasives on the tang because I wanted to save as much of the stamping as possible. Some of the pitting was deep. This is the largest blade so far in my collection. Gonna hone it up this afternoon for my Sunday shave tomorrow.

WoW! It was like a whole new shaving experience with this big blade. A 6/8 was as big as I have used to date. Mind you I've only been using a straight for 6 months. I found I was very conscious of the extra weight of the blade. It balanced perfectly with the horn scales. A 3 pass shave that came out BBS. Used T&H West Indian Limes cream which provided plenty of glide. I'm still not use to the weight and size of the blade but I had no problems navigating it. I did find I was very focused through the whole shave. It sort of felt like I was starting over again. This may become my Sunday shaver
This is only my second restore. I recently got back a heavy 6/8 Portland, Maine blade restored by Gsixxgun so now I have a bench mark. Nice work Glenn and the razor provides a great shave!
Can anyone tell me about the double pin washers I found with the original scales? I have never seen or read about them before. I'm pretty sure they are to reinforce the brass washers as they are domed and paper thin.
