Here is Roy's Gong razor. It's been making it's way around the US, as Roy has been sharing it with us razor nerds to play with during the last month. This week it has been my turn. While Pinklather had put a fabulous edge on it, my task was to use it for a while then re-hone it and send it on to the next guy to try. Well, I offered to put a polish on it for Roy as long as I had it, so yesterday it got the full restoration treatment and a new set of pins. There is still some pitting on it that will remain, giving the razor some character.
She hones like a dream, and shaves excellent. I lightly sanded the tang and some of the worst spots on the blade, then buffed it on my wheels using black-red greaseless until she has a great shine to her. She was handsome to start with, but now I think she is just gorgeous!! I hope Roy is pleased as well, she is leaving for home today.
I hope he doesn't mind that I posted up some pics of her, but it truly is one of the best jobs I've ever done. New pins on both ends, hand peened (for those of you guys who hate the microfasteners).
Please forgive the crap photos, but between my terrible skill and a limited camera, I just pretty much suck at taking decent pics. Also, it is windy as all get out today, and I couldn't see the dust that had collected on the scales, but the camera shows every spot and flaw, whether I could see them or not!! (Eyes are not what they used to be ya know!!)
So thanks for giving me a place to show her off.
Enjoy my friends!!
