Wade and Butcher 3/4 restore w'Purpleheart custom scales
I purchased this W&B 3/4 Square Point from eBay with no scales and a minimal amount of patina and water marks a few weeks ago and have been working on the scales and blade since. The blade's pivot had to be filled with JB Weld and redrilled to close up the worn pivot hole. I sanded the razor starting at 220 grit and going as high as a 3000 grit for a total of about 16 hours of work. These are the 4th set of scales that I have made, so I am still learning and refining my technique. The scales were made from 1/8 Purpleheart blanks and cut, shaped and sanded by hand. I used 9 coats of CA for the finish, but between the 8th and 9th coat, I placed the scales in oven at 400 for about 5 minutes to get the color pop and even out the tone. Once complete I hone the completed razor using Naniwaa Superstones, setting the bevel with a 1000 grit stone and honing with the 2000, 5000, and 8000. I finished the hone using a 12000 and some Crox on my Illinois Russian strop.
