Thread: Wade & Butcher in wood - and a visit in Zephyr's workshop - long post, pic heavy

I had this W&B laying around for several moons, it was a gift from our daughter who bought it in Ill on a flea market and kindly got it for me. I had been trying to hand sand it, but there was some deep pitting and I put it away for a better day. Well, that day came a couple of weeks ago, when I was invited to visit Zephyr in his work shop.



These were the razors I had brought, an old Bengall Cast Steel, a Thomas Ward & Co, and a W&B. All victimized by my some of my own sandpaper, but alas none with much progression really. I was most anxious to get the W&B done, so we started there.

In just a little while he had it cleaned up and polished. The razor had some deep pitting in a couple of spots that it was reluctant to give up, and since they were well off the shaving edge we decided to leave them. Besides, an old gal like this should be allowed some battle scars
We worked on the bengall as well, but that will have to be in another post. I still have not made the scales for it.

I put the Wade & Butcher in on a pair of scales made from red oak. There is such a nice warm glow to the wood, I decided some brass would accompany it well. Brass peens as well as inlay details. Main inlay and wedge in bone. I finished the wood in CA.

There still remains a couple of pits, towards the toe, on both sides. They are nowhere near the edge and will not interfere with the shave.

We managed to save the stamp pretty well, although the area sorely needed some cleanup.

Many thanks to Zephyr! Friendly and skilled, and good company on top. With all his explanation, maybe I will take the technological leap myself one day, in technical matters it seems nature fitted me with ten thumbs

I will hone her up and use this razor for tomorrow's SOTD, I am expecting her to perfom great.
