Thread: Big W&B

I just wrapped up this 15/16 W&B. The sketchy part of work of this sort is not damaging the script on the blade at the same time trying to remove the pitting and rust to preserve this beauty. And keeping as much of the makers mark on the spine
I took the blade as far as I dare.
There was a thought of trying to keep the scales,, but with the damage on them I felt they would not look quite right with a nicer blade. So I duplicated them to less than .05" matching taper over their length.
Then to was the concern with matching the original washers. Keeping them was an option but how many decades took their toll. So I made new triple stacks matching the thickness of the original washers as well. I'm guessing the washers looked somewhat like this when they were new.
I guess the biggest difference is the mirror polish on the inside of the scales which I'm sure isn't original. But i have my compulsions!

The coolest thing about this is you have like 3 posts in the last two years. Then you finally come up and have all this awesome stuff to show. I mean this thing looks incredible. If I were to do a big WB, this is the way I'd wish I could do it. Unfortunately, I will be doing one soon, and I already know I'm not gonna get this kind of result. Your work is awesome!

gotta love the choppers. always amazes me that so often the big heavy blades give better than the light, nimble ones.

To RegularJoe, Yeah , it's been 2 yrs. but I've been busy during that time. I grew my DE collection to somewhere around 150 razors.. my straight collection is over 200. Considering just my own work I could post photos of resto and now customs daily for the next couple of months. If I include pieces done for others,, well the list grows.

Here is just 3 ( out of 18 )of my W&Bs that I find interesting. That little one isn't a cut down piece,, that's factory size at 4 inches overall. I think it looks good next to it's big brother.

Had I not shipped the one out already I could have taken a shot of all three together. I have mine and another one just came in not 5 minutes ago. I can shoot 2 out of 3!
