BIG George Brittain (and comparatively small John Barber) Restorations

Two new additions to my collection: A much anticipated 10/8 George Brittain full hollow in the curliest curly koa I've ever seen (seriously 3D in person), with a sterling silver wedge in brass pins. The second is a 7/8 John Barber in some crazy box elder burl, ivory wedge, lined in ebony, with gold pins. The GB is finished in CA and the JB is done in epoxy resin. I didn't give either blade a full restore on the buffers they are pretty much as I found them. Last picture is the 10/8 George Brittain next to its 9/8 baby brother (who is now up for adoption I might add :) Both shave wonderfully! Wow-those are simply stunning; that burl is unreal.

Sometimes it takes a big canvas to show off curly woods and it sure is and it sure did. Three great looking razors.

It always amazes me that a mere 3/8" makes such a huge difference with these razors.

WOW! That GB is a beast. Love the scales on both. The wedge on the JB is a bit chunky isn't it?

Thank you. The John Barber wedge is thick - Its almost a full wedge grind blade, and so the thinner the wedge, the more the blade sticks out when its closed. I like my blades to stick out as little as possible, which sometimes warrants a thick wedge. But when you're using ivory, its not such a bad thing :)

Nicely done! Great looking finish on some really nice wood there. And that GB is a monster!!

Both are amazing! But I kinda have a thing for Koa. That flaming is sick!!! :D

I really like that 10/8 GB! I have a 19/16 myself and another 9/8, which at the moment is in pieces for restoring. Nice work. How does that monster shave? I found the 19/16 off balance with the original scales and that's the main reason for not shaving with it. I hope this wood is heavier and balances out better, because otherwise the shave will still be uncomfy...

I just responded to you in the other thread about this thing too sashimi :) Its fun to shave with, typical sheffield steel... The wood is not all that heavy, but the wedge is almost half an ounce of sterling silver, so it helps the balance.
