Wow, makes me want to dig out my old grinding and polishing wheel!
Very nice.
Impressed with the beautiful details in the blade and the mirror finish.
Looking forward to seeing the next one.
Keep it up, you have a "knack" for working with steel. Put a makers mark on the next one! Very nice job indeed...
Sorry to bring this back up again but wanted to give you all the latest...
Razor was holding the edge fine and shaving well however upon closer inspection with a 40X loupe I noticed a couple of small chips in the cutting edge. Tried to hone them out but new ones kept appearing while honing so this had to be down to the blade being to brittle.
Unpinned and back in the oven for a couple of hours at a higher temp than the first two times.
As this was a file originally I do not know the exact steel but assume it must be similar to 1095 as its still pretty hard despite the higher tempering temperature.
Now honed up lovely without any chips and seems to be holding the edge fine. I would guess around 58hrc.
Because this went in the oven highly polished I really like the way it came out so pinned it back together with out polishing the colour off and honed with a layer of tape.
What you like best, polished or coloured ?

p.s. I now have a job. Not ideal but will do for now :D
Congrats on the job!
I like the colored best. That's just pretty slick looking to me.
I like the colored/un-polished version.
The question would be, could you do that again?
Great work - please keep us posted....
I like the color!!
Fantastic job, England! Always fun to watch the progress of a razor in the making.
Keep us updated, alright?
I still can't believe it was a old file. What a caterpillar job. So you going to start producing them? It looks amazing.
