Good job buddy! More so for the first time.
Employers should stand in a queue to get you.
Polished will be prettier with polished horn.
Really perfectly turned.
Wow. That's stellar. I seem to think that your engineering background really helped you here.
From an old file, that is amazing stuff. You have the tools and the skills apparently.
Thanks for posting this. I really like the way you guys make art out of seemingly scrap metal.
:-)
When looking at the bevel it looks extremely even which shows some excellent work indeed! Your experiences with the way that it was tempered, metal choices, and other issues are not the really important issue with your fist razor. Your work displays that you have the "feel" in your hands. You may take that for granted but, I can assure you that to be able to make things with your hands on such a high level is a gift that not all possess. I do not know your line of work or your age but the final results are what matter.
Are you looking to do this for on a bigger scale? It can be a real pain in the butt turning a hobby into a business. I have done so many times but sometimes necessity is the mother of invention and the rewards can be very gratifying.
Take Care,
Richard
Wow. Absolutely stunning, looks amazing with the colouring to it.
If you've not got someone already on a list to buy it then consider me as interested!
That is an excellent job, and I also like the colour of it, what temp did you have the oven up to the second time?
Cheers
EdB.
Thanks for all the great feedback. Really appreciate it
Just to answer a few of the questions you asked...
I will be making more but not as my full time employment as I think that would kill the enjoyment in making them. Not sure how many and often I will make them, shall just see how it goes. Yes I could repeat the colour effect however the steel used will determine the colour as its the hardness that needs to be correct.
For the final tempering the oven was set to 500degF and the colour on the tail/tang would support that, the edge gets hotter as its thinner looks to have got to around 550degF judging by the colour.
