The New Ottoman Egyptain And Royal Windsor Razor

Hello,

i would like to show you a Razor that i made long time ago. It was the first folding razor i ever made for a customer.
It is a replica of the "Ottoman Egyptain And Royal Windsor Razor" from Wade and Butcher. My customer always wanted to own this razor but didnt manage to get one, so he ordered the replica from me.

The blade is made of a special steel, with 1,5% carbon 0,2%Tantal and traces of Silver. I alloyed and casted this steel specifically for this razor.
The handle is made of Grenadill. All other parts like the pins and the wedge are 925/000 silver.

That's a great looking razor, blade and scales !

+1 it is a great looking razor.

The only thing that concerns me is the width of the spine compared to the depth of the blade. It may just be camera angle but I'm wondering if the spine is as thick as it should be to provide the 'correct' honing angle for that large of a blade ?

Hi Ulrik. It's great to see this razor again - the owner posted pictures of it in another thread some time ago. Your workmanship is superb and I still owe you a reply to your email concerning custom blades.

Concerning the thickness of the spine in relation to the wideness of the blade: This is true, when i made this razor i was new to it, and made this mistake. But with 2 layers of tape, honing works fine.

The customer just asked me per mail to show you another Ottoman, this time an Original.
After years of research he finaly found an Ottoman Blade, but without handle. Because of circumstances that he may tell you if he wants, the blade got broken.....

When he told me about this disaster i asked him to send me the pieces so i could try my best to save this exeptional blade.

Here is the result (the scales are not my work, i just finished them):

Very very nice work on both razors. I would be interested to know the process, unless it is a trade secret and I understand that, you used to fix the broken blade.

Thank you Bob.
It is no secret at all. I used silver solder paste (meltingpoint 650°C). The difficulty was not to harm the hardness of the blade. Therefore i covered it with wet tissues and added new water while the hole soldering process. To get enough heat i used a propan/oxygen burner with a very fin but hot flame. It was a hard task but it worked. Only the tang is soft, the blade itself did not loose any hardness.

Wow! I'm with Jimmy - I would not have thought that blade could be saved without lots of cosmetic damage. Very nice job! The replica is beautiful as well.
