Since the Aussie dollar has been going so well lately, lets hear what the local bladesmen have been importing in.
Myself, I have just purchased two items from the states and two from Japan.

Those were a custom fine badger brush in spalted tamarind (I will post the picture when I get it) and a Big Daddy 3inch strop from the USA.

A 10000 grit Nakayama stone from 330mate and finally a Kamisori razor, just to give one a go from Japan.

Altogether maybe $200 was saved, though my wallet still feels the pain of impulse purchases. In truth we should still support the smaller local stores, and I get all of my creams and aftershaves here in Aus. But a deal is still a deal.

I travelled to the UK a few years back and thought I was fortunate when the AUD was 2.5 to the pound.

I believe in supporting the local bricks and mortar retailers, but when a lot of them just replicate what you can get from Myers/DJs/Coles/Woolies it makes it difficult. For example a local knife shop of mine that I would love to support only carries Wusthof/F Dick/Victorinox. No Sabatiers, no J-blades, no CS blades.

PS please forgive my chef-nerd instinct but why would you want a badger brush in an Indian spice? Tamarind comes in a paste or pressed fruits, similar to like dried dates, well at least as for as I knoww.

The tamarind tree grows natively in the Kimberly, the northern area of WA, of which I was was born. My family is a cross between Malayasian and Aboriginal, going back to the days when asian hard hat divers would take the locals as wives. I grew up eating it alot in the food my family cooked so I thought it would be a good reminder of my roots.

Plus it looks awesome.

Thanks, I used to watch it constantly as a kid. It's the only kids show that I know where the main character calls someone a poofter too.

My Hyde? Michael Nesbit's portrayal of the Jekyll/Hyde character was one of the best I think I've ever seen. Brilliant work.

I don't remember Monkey calling anyone a poofter ... but then I don't remember what I did yesterday, either.

Oh yes, he calls a generic bad guy that in episode two. I remember watching the miniseries a few year back, but barely remember all of it. I really am loving these British modern takes on old literature, especially the new Sherlock series.
